Day 498

I woke up earlier than usual this morning. I thought I heard somebody whispering at me through the wall. But the cleaners in the corridor were so noisy, I couldn't work it out.

Day 497

I've discreetly written a note in the crossword puzzle and pushed that through the holes in the wall. One of the holes is partially blocked up from the other side, although the other two are ok. Hope he replies soon

Day 496

A whole pack of pencils! They must be learning to trust me. I think the wet note I found on the floor was one of mine left over from the pile dumped on the floor.

Day 495

The Book Man turned up again. Told me they revised the selection. He gave me a puzzle book explaining that they are trying to improve the IQ of the inmates. I told him I'd need a pencil, so he went off to find a guard.

Day 494

"Escape from Alcatraz - by John Campbell Bruce" I thought it an interesting title to hand out to prisoners. I was just about to start reading it in the mornings light, and the guard came and took it away again.

Day 493

My hatch rattled open today and a new face appeared. "Want a book to read?" Came a voice. I nodded and a small book was slipped under my door. The hatch rattled shut again.

Day 492

My light came back on today. No sign of the pencil though, and I feel desperate to talk to somebody again
